This is bad advice based on ignorance and disrespect of children. They are treated like they are not even human in these books. I am glad most of these books are out of print and there should be a warning to those who buy them that it contains disturbing additudes. This creates Hitlers, and psychopaths and we have enough of them in our society as it is. The Pearls certainly claim they were successful in raising their own children, but they would be arrested today for some of their practices. I would look for other legal methods and more positive ways to raise children. Buyer beware!

These books along with To Train Up A Child also by Michael Pearl are wonderful! I have a 9 month old daughter (my first) and had just noticed how much she is whining. I literally couldn't put her down so that I could use the restroom without her crying like the world had come to an end. These books specifically addressed this behavior and gave a practical response to it. So many other child training books just address the "sin nature" of children and where it comes from without actually giving practical responses to the behavior. Not so with No Greater Joy. I don't agree with everything Mr. Pearl says; however, he does give great explainations for them. I would highly recommend these books to anyone with children or grandchildren or even teachers/nannies.

How can it be ok to recommend beating your children?! Beating infants? This is bringing me to tears. This book should be de-listed. Our children need our protection not abuse! Please I beg you, do not beat your babies or your children. Children learn from our actions. Aside from hurting your children physically, you are teaching them that violence is a proper response to a difficult situation. When my 3 year old plays pretend with her dolls, sometimes when they are 'not behaving' she gives them a time out. She is doing what she knows. Imagine then if she were beating her dolls with plumbing supplies as this book suggests you do to your children. Is that what we want to teach our children. Perhaps beating them into submission is the easy way out, but harmful to your child and to your relationship. And likely illegal as well.
